We’re approaching ‘that’ time of year; when folk – occasionally holidaymakers, usually anglers – turn up, unannounced, to “just have a look around”.
Sometimes, they pop into the shop and ask if it’s OK; at other times, they just amble off. (This latter tends to occur on Tuesdays. When we’re closed. And I’m having my lunch.)
In all cases however they get the same response: No. And this in turn leads to their getting varying degrees of ‘hump’.
So, for the avoidance of doubt, offence or hurt feelings: we don’t allow complete strangers to wander the site unaccompanied.
This may be because:
we have guests, who happily and confidently leave their cabins unlocked and their worldly goods on display – secure in the knowledge that we know who’s onsite at any given time;
work is being carried out, and we’d rather visitors weren’t crushed to death by diggers, dumpers, or falling trees (which ramps our Public Liability premium, disproportionately);
the cabins are being cleaned – resulting in our cleaners (who charge like a herd of elephants) being disturbed, and/ enabling anyone who is so-minded to help themselves to whatever fixtures and fittings take their fancy.
No offence meant; plenty often taken. Which is just too bad.
Because, fact is, Rum Bridge is, essentially, a holiday complex. We do not offer day ticket fishing.
Angling, in summer, is from the lakeside cabins; in winter, going forward, it will be for a select group of members. I doubt very much that Warners let random ‘walk-ins’ wander their hotels, unsupervised. And we seldom have time to offer guided tours.
That said, if you’d like to look around a cabin, you’ll be very welcome. Indeed, we’ll happily show any that happen to be free at the time.
Just, please: give us a call first.
