Rum Bridge will host its final Get Into Fishing Day of 2019 on Tues, 22nd October.
Training will once again be provided by John Pope of EverybodyCanFish, whose previous events have proved so popular with beginners of all ages. And all sexes.
Indeed, we’ve been especially encouraged by the number of ladies, both young and not so young, who’ve taken part.
Right now, angling is facing a huge challenge, in terms of declining participation; so it’s great to see children and parents alike – many of whom may never have considered wetting a line – enjoying their first time on the bank.
With this in mind, following their ‘intro’ coaching sessions, participants will be welcome to continue fishing on either the Moat or Road Lakes, both of which have been known to throw up more than a few big tench, roach, crucians and carp.
New visitors will be reassured to learn that both lakes are securely fenced, easily accessible and equipped with toilets and changing areas. So they’re ideal for families with younger children.
As on previous occasions, all tackle and bait will be supplied at no charge.
Books, soft toys and tackle prizes will be up for grabs in the ever-popular casting competition.
Hot food and drink will be served throughout the day, from the onsite Carper’s Kitchen.
And, by way of an ‘early bird bonus’, we’ll be offering free telescopic ‘whip’ fishing outfits to the first 10 attendees (five in the morning session, five in the afternoon), as well as goodie bags – with hats, sweets, tackle and gift vouchers – for the next 20.
So we’re hoping for a great turnout.
Fact is, these events demand a considerable commitment; not least, from John and his guys, who give up their time to help nurture the next generation of Terry Hearns and Steve Ringers.
But we view such initiatives as an investment in the future; both of our sport and, frankly, our business.
Accordingly, plans are already afoot for a Summer School, coaching weekend and after-school club for 2020.
