Size 8 – Size 8 is perfect for big baits and tied to 10lb (0.26mm) Drennan Supplex mono it’s also ideal for big Carp into double figures. Large cubes or rough shaped pieces of luncheon meat can be matched to size 8’s. This hook size and hair length are also suitable for 12mm to 14mm boilies. To avoid splitting hard pellets with the Drennan Quickstop we recommend using a 1.5mm diameter bait drill.

Size 10 – 10’s are a really good versatile hook size for bigger Carp and a range of bigger baits such as two or three grains of sweetcorn, boilies from 12mm up to 14mm and pellets from two 8mm soft hookers to single 14mm pellet. Pellets can be mounted longways crossways or mixed up to fit the hair and get perfect presentation.

Size 12 – 12’s are one of the most popular hook sizes for Carp fishing on commercial waters. They are big enough fish boilies from 10mm up to 12mm are excellent for small cubes of meat and ideal for 10mm to 12mm Carp Pellets. All hard pellets have to be drilled using a 1.5mm diameter bait drill, this allows the Drennan Quickstop to push through the centre without splitting the bait.

Size 14 – 14’s often prove to be the perfect hook size: Small enough to be unobtrusive yet big enough in the gape and strong enough in the wire to land really big Carp. Mini boilies up to 12mm can be roughly trimmed down in size to both change the shape of the bait and release more of its flavour. Two 6mm soft pellets can be pierced and mounted sideways or pellets from 10mm up to 12mm fished singly. Provided it’s done with some care, Drennan Quickstops can be pushed straight through soft pellets.

Size 16 – Size 16 Drennan Carp Method hooks are strong enough in the wire to land big fish yet small enough to fool wary Carp on hard fished waters. 16 is an ideal size for a variety of single pellets right up to 10mm and for mini boilies, again up to 10mm or even 12mm where a small size 16 can provide a really good disproportionately strong hook hold. A single large grain of corn can be pierced so that it fills the hair length perfectly. Such attention to detail helps hook more fish.
